347/347H stainless steel coils are austenitic stainless steels designed for high-temperature applications. Grade 347 is stabilized with niobium (columbium), which prevents carbide precipitation during welding. On the other hand, 347H has a higher carbon content, which improves high-temperature strength, making it ideal for applications in high-stress environments. These coils offer excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion, especially in environments subject to thermal cycling. 347 and 347H stainless steel coils are used extensively in industries where performance under high temperature and stress is critical, such as in the chemical, oil and gas, and power generation sectors.
347/347H stainless steel coils function through a chemical process where the high chromium content allows the formation of a protective oxide layer on the material’s surface. This passive oxide layer significantly reduces corrosion and prevents further oxidation when exposed to high temperatures and oxygen. The niobium stabilization in 347 ensures that the material maintains its strength and resistance to high-temperature oxidation and carbide precipitation, even in severe environments. The higher carbon content in 347H enhances its ability to resist scaling and oxidation at elevated temperatures, providing superior mechanical properties under thermal cycling conditions.
